        International sister cities offer warm support to Guangzhou in battle against coronavirus outbreak

        Fukuoka, Japan donated one million yen to Guangzhou through the Chinese Consulate General in Fukuoka on February 14th, aiming to support its sister city in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

        Kubota Kazuhiro, International Department Chief of Fukuoka said that Fukuoka expresses their great concern for Guangzhou as they know that the city is being affected by the coronavirus. We will always stand with Guangzhou and make a contribution to the battle.

        Kang Xiaolei, Executive Consul General of the Chinese?Consulate?General?in?Fukuoka, thanked Fukuoka for the donation. “Japan and Japanese people have given great support to China's battle against the outbreak. That has deeply touched the Chinese people. With the unity and cooperation of our two countries, we have confidence in our capability to combat the coronavirus and overcome this critical challenge.”

        Guangzhou and Fukuoka formed a sister city relationship on May 2nd, 1979, making them the first pair of international sister cities in Guangzhou as well as the South China region. Guangzhou and Fukuoka have pushed forward communication and cooperation across different sectors over the past four decades. The two cities look forward to new developments in their relationship after the epidemic.

        Many international sister cities have expressed their understanding and support of Guangzhou through various means after the COVID-19 outbreak.

        Pol. Lt. Gen. Sopon Pisuttiwong, Deputy?Governor of Bangkok, recently led the officials of the city government to send their best wishes to China and the Chinese people by video.

        Kim Matthew, Principal of Durban Music School, South Africa, also led his students in expressing support of China.
